Originally built in 1911 as a warehouse for Storey & Campbell, a wholesale and resale company that sold transportation goods such as horse saddles and trunks. Later the company restructured, becoming the sole agents for Studebaker commercial trucks.
Redeveloped into condos in 1996, and much like several other buildings on Beatty, there is no setback, resulting in an additional storey that’s below the Beatty st level but above the lane in the back which was once a railway spur line. The building is now a mix of studios and 1 bed/1bath condos, however some of the larger units have a second bathroom. Although technically just outside the boundary that most would consider as Gastown, Studio 518 is one of my favourite buildings in the city, and remains an under appreciated gem. She’s got such an iconic mix of fat wood beams, exposed brick, concrete, and wood window frames – the quintessential NY style warehouse loft. Most units are wide open spaces with 10′ ceilings.
Fantastic common rooftop patio. Heat and hot water included in strata fees. New roof in 2022. One dog or one cat allowed.
